This application allows you to receive warnings of the conditions of the state of the sea on the coasts of Costa Rica. Wind forecasts, height, period and wave direction, sea surface temperature and marine currents are made, both in the Pacific and Caribbean of Costa Rica, with comments that issue caution messages for bathers, surf currents and boat navigation. You can also check the predictions of the tides in the main coastal regions of Costa Rica. Additionally, you can receive informative notifications that consist of relevant news, definitions, useful tips for emergencies and general information.
The main objective is to offer automated information every 6 hours of the state of the sea on ocean-meteorological events that may represent a marine-coastal threat in Costa Rica.
It is aimed at sea users who in some way require timely information to develop their safe activities, among them fishermen, tourists, surfers, permanent or occasional residents, and government offices, coastguards, port captaincies, etc. to distribute warnings in case of a coastal threat.
The Oceanographic Information Module (MIO) is a project created in June 2011 within the Center for Research in Marine Sciences and Limnology (CIMAR) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), with the financial support of the National Prevention Commission of Risks and Emergency Care (CNE) of Costa Rica and the collaboration of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT).
